City of Pointe-Claire Receives Funding from the Government of Québec for Decarbonization Projects
The City of Pointe-Claire would like to inform you of the progress it has made in the development of its Climate Plan and in setting its decarbonization objectives. These key actions are directly aligned with the Ecological Transition and Resilience axis of the City’s 2023-2030 Strategic Plan.
To help fund the extensive studies and implementation of this plan, the City was informed on June 6, 2025, that it had received $648,000 in funding through the Accélérer la transition climatique locale (ATCL) - Volet 2 Program, administered by the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation. These funds will support the following projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Pointe-Claire:
- Energy efficiency and decarbonization studies for several municipal buildings: the Bob-Birnie Arena, the Pointe-Claire Aquatic Centre, the Public Works building, the Olive-Urquhart Sports Centre, Fire Station 55, and the Municipal Court.
These studies will identify concrete measures and infrastructure modifications to reduce energy consumption and emissions for each facility.
- A decarbonization project for outdoor pools: the six pools (Cedar Park Heights Pool, Lakeshore Pool, Lakeside Pool, Viking Pool, Sunnyside Pool, and Pointe-Claire Village Pool), that are currently running on propane, will be switched to highly efficient electric heat pumps in the near future. This will eliminate the use of fossil fuels for heating and reduce the pools’ overall energy consumption and environmental impact.
- A study for the development and implementation of a bike path near the upcoming Fairview REM station. This study will support the continuation of the planning and designing of an efficient and safe bike path to promote active transportation and the use of public transit.
These projects are planned to be launched in 2026. Stay tuned for further developments.
