Pothole Repairs
Throughout the year, the City of Pointe-Claire teams work on the road network to repair potholes. The arrival of warmer weather allows us to switch to a different technique, ensuring more efficient and durable repairs.
In cold, rainy, or snowy weather, the climatic conditions require us to use warm mix asphalt, which, although effective for temporary repairs, has limited durability. Additionally, the condition of the road surface during this period, often frozen, wet, or covered in debris, prevents proper adhesion of the asphalt, further reducing the quality and longevity of the repairs. As a result, these areas often need to be revisited and more permanently repaired once conditions improve.
Warmer temperatures and drier weather allow us to switch to hot mix asphalt. This method significantly enhances the efficiency and durability of our repairs. These conditions contribute to safer and more comfortable roads for everyone. While this approach offers long-term benefits, it does take time to complete properly, and we appreciate your patience as we carry out these improvements.
Potholes typically appear when the road surface has sustained damage over time. Repairing them ensures the safety and comfort of users for a short period. However, some streets may require more in-depth intervention, and the City closely monitors the condition of its entire road network: each street is evaluated according to precise criteria to plan interventions at the right time. To find out which streets are scheduled for reconstruction over the next few years, please consult the Three-Year Capital Investment Program.
For your safety and that of other road users, we remind you to adhere to speed limits, or even slow down. Stay vigilant and adjust your speed according to road conditions.
How to report a pothole?
The City actively monitors the condition of the road network, and most potholes are already identified thanks to the regular patrol done by our teams.
If you still wish to report a pothole, you can submit a Paving Request via our Online Request System. Your report will be directly forwarded to the department responsible for these operations.
