The City of Pointe-Claire is pleased to collaborate with the group Bibliothèques de Banlieues de l’Île de Montréal to ensure that bilingual activity kits, specially designed for adults living with memory loss, are available to a greater number of people.
Following the success of the kits developed in Pointe-Claire, the Bibliothèques de Banlieues de l’Île de Montréal approached the City’s Library about funding a project to relaunch the kits. The intention behind the project was to adapt them and make them available for loan across the library network.
Starting this week, more than a dozen libraries in suburbs of the Island of Montréal will be offering these bilingual activity kits, which were designed to support adults living with memory loss. They are packed with tools that will facilitate moments of bonding between caregivers, companions and people living with memory loss.
In 2022, the Pointe-Claire Public Library – Central began lending out five bilingual activity kits designed to stimulate the faculties of adults living with memory loss. These kits were developed thanks to a collaboration between the City of Pointe-Claire and Alzheimer Groupe Inc. (AGI).
The kits come in an easy-to-carry bag and contain various items and documents for a series of varied activities: books, images, sensory board, musical instruments, exercise sheets, and lots more. Each kit is unique, but some items are included in more than one kit.
The kits can be requested at the circulation desk at the Pointe-Claire Public Library – Central and can be borrowed for four weeks. You can also reserve them directly by searching for the word “kits” in the Catalog section of the Library portal.
The group Bibliothèques des Banlieues de l’Île de Montréal is a dynamic network that works together to enrich the services offered to the citizens of Montréal’s demerged cities, encourages innovation and responds to the specific needs of their communities.
