Description
The Grouyan Gombo group has been sharing the joy of Cajun music for some twenty years. The group performs regularly on stages across Quebec and eastern Canada.
Their repertoire faithfully represents the joyful rhythms of traditional music from the southern United States, with the original twist of adding their own compositions. The invented word “Grouyan” is a transcription of “Grouillant” (bustling), while Gombo (or Gumbo) is a classic Louisiana dish in which various tasty ingredients are simmered in a black pot. This is somewhat representative of the band, which draws on the depths of Cajun grooves, performing both classics and original compositions.
Michael Ball, violin; Michael Jerome Brown, violin, banjo, guitar; Guillaume Jabbour, acoustic and electric guitars; Harlan Johnson, diatonic accordion; Carl Rufh, electric bass and double bass; Christina Beaudry-Cardenas, drums.
World, traditional, and Cajun music.
Free admission.
