Protective Polystyrene (Styrofoam) Collection
New recycling guidelines from Bin Impact allows for all plastic and polystyrene packaging regardless of its plastic number, to be recycled in the blue bin. Complete information about the recyclables collection in Pointe-Claire can be found by visiting the Recyclables page.
The exception to the plastic rule is with polystyrene (Styrofoam) packaging. This type of packaging is used to provide protection to electronics, appliances, and other items. Because Styrofoam breaks apart, it disrupts sorting operations at the recycling center and contaminates other materials. For this reason, it is not thrown into the recycling bin and instead can be brought to Pointe-Claire’s permanent collection site.
Protective polystyrene:
- Packaging: Electronic, appliances, furniture
- Styrofoam coolers
- Styrofoam cups
