Pre-Game Prep: Recyclable Materials Collection

Follow these 5 steps and you’ll be in the major leagues of sorting your organic waste collection:

  1. Put your bin at the curb after 6 p.m. the day before or, by 7 a.m. on collection day.
  2. Use only the green rolling bin provided by the City of Pointe-Claire.
  3. Place the bin with wheels and handle facing your residence.
  4. For safe collection, please keep 30 cm (1 ft.) of space around the bin.
  5. Make sure the bin lid is fully closed, no stuff sticking out!

After collection, your bin must be removed no later than 10 p.m. on the day of collection. Outside of collection day, it must be stored in a place where it is least visible from the street and least disruptive to neighboring properties.

What Goes in the Blue Bin?

The new guidelines from Bin Impact have simplified sorting! There is no need to think about plastic numbers, recycling symbols or the type of material to know what goes in the blue bin. Just ask these three questions:

  1. Is it a glass, plastic or metal container with a cap or lid?
  2. Is it packaging used to transport a product?
  3. Is it a printed item?

If you answer YES to any question, it belongs in the recycling bin! By keeping waste out of landfills we keep valuable materials in circulation and reduce the need to extract resources for new products. Recycling is one of the easiest plays you can do for the planet.

5 Tips To Consider Before Throwing an Item Into Recycling

  1. Empty and rinse the containers.
  2. Unscrew the metal lids from containers and add them separately to the bin.
  3. Leave the caps on the plastic bottles and containers.
  4. Crumple aluminum foil into balls.
  5. Break down and flatten cardboard boxes.

Which Recyclable Materials are Accepted?
