Pre-Game Prep: Household Waste Collection
Position Your Bin Like A Pro
On collection day, follow these placement rules. A well-placed bin keeps the play running smoothly.
Place the bin in your driveway at the edge of the road after 6 p.m. the night before or before 7 a.m. on collection day.
The wheels and handle must face your residence.
To make collections and City snow removal efficient, be sure the bin is not on the road nor on the sidewalk.
Leave 30 cm (1 ft) around each bin or, 45 cm (1.5 ft) for larger containers.
After the collection, bring your bins back before 10 p.m. on collection day.
Consider storing the household waste bin outside in a location that is least visible and disruptive to your neighbours.
How to Ensure Proper Collection of Your Bins in Winter
Winter conditions can make waste collection more challenging. Snow, ice, and cold temperatures can interfere with proper pickup. Consult the Instructions for Collections page for information on how you can help prevent winter collections issues.
Compliant Household Waste Bin
Citizens are responsible for acquiring a container or a bin for the household waste collection. It is suggested that the waste bin be gray or black and not blue, green, or brown coloured bin. Note: As per regulation PC-2864, the blue (recycling) and green (organics) bins provided by the City cannot be used for household waste.
Refer to this visual guide to select the right household waste bin.
