Moving? Where to Dispose of Your Items in Pointe-Claire
Moving is often a great opportunity to declutter, sort through your belongings, and start fresh. Before placing items at the curb, it’s important to know that many materials are collected separately in Pointe-Claire. Mattresses, bulky items, clothing, electronics, and construction materials do not all belong in the same collection.
Taking a few moments to dispose of your items properly helps keep our streets clean, supports collection crews, and encourages the reuse of items that still have value.
1. Give Your Items a Second Life First
Before throwing something away, ask yourself: could someone else still use it?
Furniture, decor, kitchenware, toys, books, and other items in good condition may be useful to a neighbour or someone in need.
Take part in the Community Treasure Hunt on July 5! It’s a great opportunity to place unwanted but reusable items in front of your property for others to discover and take home. It’s simple, convenient, and helps reduce waste.
Be sure to visit the event page for details and register before June 28.

Where Can I Donate Usable Items?
The Community Treasure Hunt is not the only way to give your items a second life. Throughout the year, reusable items can be donated to charitable organizations, reuse centres, or shared through online exchange and resale platforms.
Do you have large items or no access to a vehicle? Consult the 211 directory, which lists numerous community resources across the Island of Montréal. Some organizations even offer home pickup services for furniture and other reusable goods.
2. Use the Right Collection for Each Item
When moving, certain items are often placed in the wrong collection. Here are a few helpful reminders.
Search by Material
Not sure where an item belongs? Use our Material Search Tool. In just a few clicks, you’ll find the appropriate collection or drop-off option.
Mattresses and Box Springs
Have you recently moved to Pointe-Claire? The City offers a special collection dedicated exclusively to mattresses and box springs. These items must be placed out during the mattress and box spring collection and not with bulky items.
Upcoming mattress and box spring collections:
- Sector A: July 1 and October 7
- Sector B: July 2 and October 8
Not sure which collection sector you belong to? Consult your collection calendar or use the address search tool.

Clothing
Please do not throw unwanted clothing in the garbage.
Clothing in good condition, worn clothing, and other textiles are now accepted at the ecocentre. You can also bring them to donation bins located throughout the city or to a reuse organization.
A simple action that helps reduce waste and extend the life of your textiles.
Items That Cannot Be Left at the Curb
The local ecocentre is a convenient option for responsibly disposing of materials that are not accepted through curbside collections.
At the next local ecocentre event on July 11, residents can bring items such as refrigerators, televisions, sofas, construction materials, and other materials not accepted in the bulky item collection.
Accepted Items: Local Ecocentre
Paint and other household hazardous waste must be taken to an appropriate collection point or to a regional ecocentre.
The closest ecocentres to Pointe-Claire are located in LaSalle and Saint-Laurent.
3. Prepare Your Items for Collection
To help collection crews work safely and efficiently:
- Place your items at the curb on the scheduled collection date.
- Spread items out rather than stacking them.
- Leave enough space around items for collection equipment to access them.
- Do not block sidewalks, fire hydrants, or property entrances.
Proper placement makes all the difference.
A responsible move starts with small actions: sorting properly, reusing, donating, and using the correct collection service. Together, let’s make July 1 a time for fresh beginnings, not unnecessary waste.
