News
Published on December 3, 2025 to 3:17 p.m.

On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the City of Pointe-Claire reiterates the importance of supporting people with disabilities through simple daily gestures, including respecting parking spaces reserved for them.

Proclaimed by the United Nations, this day invites everyone to reflect on inclusion and to strengthen their participation in a community open to all. For the 2025 edition, the theme “Understand, Act, and Build” highlights the commitment needed to promote the full participation of people with disabilities in community life. The City continues its efforts to make its facilities and services increasingly accessible.

Some of the initiatives offered include:

  • Friendly phone calls to Pointe-Claire seniors to check in on them.

  • Promotion of the financial aid program that allows eligible children and families to participate in municipal recreational activities.

  • Promotion of the Leisure Companion Card (Carte accompagnement Loisir, CAL) for visitors and participants in municipal activities.s

  • Availability of memory kits for people with Alzheimer’s disease, including motor activities, puzzles, resources, and art materials, offered at the Central Library.

  • Distribution of the Friendship Activity Booklet during special events. This booklet, accompanied by a friendship bracelet, is aimed at children aged 5 to 10 to promote inclusion, openness, and respect.

  • Ongoing training for municipal staff on accessibility to better support citizens and visitors.

Acquisition of accessibility-enhancing equipment:

  • Two baby changing tables (installation upcoming, locations to be confirmed).

  • Two waterproof wheelchairs for children for use in water play areas.

  • Adaptive equipment for day camps, such as noise-canceling headphones.

Additional improvements will be implemented in the coming years to create an even more accessible living environment and to support the well-being of people living with disabilities.

Together, let’s move toward a truly inclusive community.
