Update: Quebec’s National Holiday Celebrations

News
Published on June 25, 2026 to 2:51 p.m.

The City of Pointe-Claire would like to provide an update on the events that occurred during the Quebec’s National Holiday fireworks show held yesterday evening, June 24, along the shores of Lake Saint-Louis, as various pieces of information are currently circulating online.

During the event, a fire broke out on the barge used as the launch platform for the fireworks.

Despite this incident, the show concluded as planned, and the safety of attendees was never compromised.

Ensuring the safety of the public and staff remains our highest priority. All required safety measures for pyrotechnic displays were implemented and respected by both the City and the fireworks contractor, including:

  • Permit issued by the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal
  • Barge positioned at a safe distance on the water
  • Safety perimeter established along the shoreline
  • Presence of experienced pyrotechnicians
  • Presence of emergency services and the Coast Guard

Canada Day Fireworks

Canada Day celebrations will proceed as planned. Following a review of yesterday’s events and the safety measures in place, security services have confirmed that there are no concerns regarding the fireworks show scheduled for July 1 at Alexandre-Bourgeau Park.

The fireworks company has also confirmed that a new barge will be used as the launch platform.
