Universal Accessibility Action Plan

The Universal Accessibility Municipal Action Plan of the City of Pointe-Claire aims to promote the social and professional integration of people living with a disability.

It brings together the objectives of the various municipal services to improve the accessibility of programs and facilities. The goal is to adapt the service offering to the needs of all residents, both residents and non-residents, to ensure an inclusive and accessible environment.

In 2004, the National Assembly of Quebec passed Bill 56, which replaced the title of the former law with the Act to secure handicapped persons in the exercise of their rights with a view to their educational, occupational, and social integration.

Article 61.1 provides that each municipality with at least 15,000 inhabitants adopts an action plan identifying the obstacles to the integration of handicapped persons in the sector of activity under its jurisdiction and describing the measures taken during the year that ends and the measures planned for the year that begins with the aim of reducing these obstacles to integration. This plan must include any element that will be determined by the government on the recommendation of the minister. The plan must be produced and made public annually.

History of the Action Plan

In 2007, the City of Pointe-Claire began developing an action plan for residents with disabilities. In March 2008, the city council adopted a first Accessibility Action Plan. The objective was to ensure that everyone has the necessary support to access all the facilities and programs related to the community life of our municipality.
