Sight Triangle

Is your property located at a street corner? Do you know what a sight triangle is?

Is your property located at a street intersection? Make sure that a sight triangle is kept clear at all times to ensure the safety of all road users, including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The sight triangle is a triangular area located at the corner of a property at the intersection of two streets. This area must be kept clear to allow for an unobstructed view for all road users, enhancing overall safety.

What is allowed in this area?

  • Landscaping elements, fences, or hedges with a maximum height of 91 centimetres (3 feet) from street level;

  • Any existing tree, as long as its branches and leaves are kept clear between 1 and 3 metres above the public roadway.

To improve visibility at street corners, any new planting within the sight triangle has been prohibited in Pointe-Claire since January 2015.

If your property is at an intersection, be sure to keep the sight triangle clear at all times by regularly maintaining hedges, shrubs, and trees.

For more information or to request an evaluation of the sight triangle on your property, contact: Inspection – Public Security Department.
