Emergency Preparedness Week – In the event of an emergency, be prepared
The City of Pointe-Claire reminds you that it is important to be prepared in the event of an emergency or disaster. Did you know that in an emergency situation, you are the first person responsible for your own safety and that of your loved ones?
During Emergency Preparedness Week, which occurs from May 4-10, Pointe-Claire Mayor Tim Thomas emphasizes the importance of being aware of the potential risks that citizens may face. Above all, he wishes to highlight the necessity of being prepared, whether it be an accident involving hazardous materials, contamination, a drinking water shortage, fire, flood or power failure. You must be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours.
“In the case of a disaster, depending on the scale of the event, it is recommended to be able to meet your basic needs for the first three days. That's how long it could take for rescue teams to reach you or restore public services,” reminds Pointe-Claire's mayor.
To support you through the various emergency scenarios, a new Emergency Measures section has been added to our website. Consult it to learn how to prepare a 72-hour kit and fill out your Family Emergency Plan so you are ready for any situation.
We also recommend that you sign up for our automated alert system. This system enables us to reach our citizens with alerts and general notices.
