Civil protection in Québec
In Québec, civil protection aims to keep the population, infrastructures and the environment safe against disasters and emergencies. It is based on a prevention, preparedness, response and recovery approach, in an effort to minimize the impact of natural disasters, industrial accidents and major incidents.
Civil protection in Québec is governed by the Civil Protection Act, which defines the responsibilities of municipalities, businesses and citizens in terms of risk management. The Ministère de la Sécurité publique du Québec (MSP) coordinates actions at provincial level and supports municipalities in drawing up their emergency plans.
International symbol of civil protection
The civil defence emblem is a distinctive international symbol. It identifies and recognizes units assigned to defence, safety and civil protection.
This symbol is formed by a blue triangle, representing the state of equilibrium, at the heart of an orange ground, representing the state of alert. It evokes the mission of civil protection, which is to respond calmly and efficiently in emergency situations, and to restore harmony in environments affected by disasters.

Centre de sécurité civile de Montréal
On the Island of Montréal, during emergencies, Pointe-Claire falls under the jurisdiction of the agglomeration of Montréal and the Centre de sécurité civile de Montréal (CSC).
The Montréal CSC works to prevent the risks associated to major disasters and to prepare the necessary response and support in the event of a calamity. It develops policies, emergency plans, alert and mobilization procedures, and organizes training and simulation exercises. It also implements measures to prevent and minimize the impact of potential disasters on the public.
