The City of Pointe-Claire has long been a place where everyone can express themselves, share their ideas, and feel welcomed in an inclusive and welcoming community.

Key Information for New Residents

Garbage, Recycling and Compost Pick Up

The environment and its well-being are of the utmost importance to the City. That is why proper waste management and making the most of the City’s various collection services are essential to being environmentally responsible.

Pets and Domestic Animals 

We know how important your furry best friend is, they are an integral part of your family. That is why the City offers dog parks and green spaces where pets can roam free. We ask however that all residents register their dogs and ensure their companion wears the City's identification tag.

Sports, Cultural and Leisure Activities

Pointe-Claire is known for its high-quality and extensive sports, cultural and leisure programming. Whether it be a city-wide celebration or an intimate painting class, the City offers activities and events for all ages and preferences.

Resident’s MULTI Card 

Residents must obtain a MULTI Card to participate in activities offered by the City. This card can be made at various municipal buildings:

Democracy and Civic Engagement

There are eight Districts in the City of Pointe-Claire, each overseen by a City Council member. To find what District you live in, who is your councillor and learn more about the municipal council, visit or Democracy and Civic Engagement page.

2025 is an election year in Pointe-Claire, and it is important to exercise your right to vote! To learn about the municipal elections and how to get involved, visit our Elections 2025 page.  

Municipal Taxes

New property owners are required to pay property transfer duties, commonly known as the Welcome Tax. For more information, visit our Transfer Duties page.

Water By-Law

As part of its efforts to reduce water waste, the City has adopted a water usage by-law in June 2024 to encourage more sustainable use of this resource throughout Pointe-Claire.
