In 2020, Glass Marcano’s life changed overnight. She went from selling fruit in Venezuela to participating in the major conducting competition La Maestra in Paris, where she won over the jury and brought home the Orchestra Prize. This major turning point is illustrated in this two-part program. First, her roots can be found in the works of South American composers and poets. Then, she tackles Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, the piece that helped make her famous when she conducted it at the final round of the 2021 Victoires de la Musique.
