Participants in Aquatic Centre activities will have access to the changing rooms. Lockers, showers, saunas and hairdryers are not available.

The Olympic Way (Ages 2 to 16)

Due to COVID-19 and in order to maintain social distancing, our monitors will no longer be in the water with the participants. Parents must be in the water with their child for the White, Yellow and Green levels (one parent per participant). The wading pool will remain closed for fall. 

Children under 12 years old must be accompanied at all times. They cannot be left unsupervised if a parent is participating in a class with another child.

Non-swimmers learn to swim using a swimming aid, which allows them to spend more time swimming. As they progress through the eight swimming levels, they become proficient at the four competitive swim strokes.

Not all levels are offered at all times.

Beginner + (ages 8 to 16)

Introduction to swimming for ages 8 and up to increase comfort level and independence in the water. To succeed in the program, students must swim one width of the pool continuously.

Teen Cross Training (ages 11 to 16)

Due to COVID-19, this course is cancelled until further notice. Swimming lessons are still offered, please refer to the Olympic Way swimming lessons above. 

Program designed to improve general fitness, including agility, strength and stamina. It combines dryland and water components.

P-C Windmills Intramural Swim (ages 9 to 16)

Due to COVID-19, only the senior level class will be offered. 

Two programs are available: a Junior (9-13 years) and a Senior (12-16 years) non-competitive swim program with the goal of perfecting strokes, learning some elementary racing techniques and increasing fitness.

Swim Academy (ages 5 to 11)

A preparatory program for those interested in swimming competitively with the Pointe-Claire Swim Club and designed for those with previous swimming experience. Children must complete a tryout before they can register for this program. For more information, please contact the Swim Club at 514-630-1202, ext. 1403.

 

Learn to Dive (ages 5 to 15)

The Learn to Dive Program is divided into eight diving levels, from beginners to advanced. The five compulsory dives (front dive, back dive, reverse dive, inward dive, and half twist) are introduced in progressive series. A child must master every skill at each level before progressing to the next. In order to preserve the integrity of each class, we reserve the right to transfer children who are not in the appropriate level.

Dive fit (ages 6 to 15)

Due to COVID-19, this course is cancelled until further notice. Diving lessons are still offered, please refer to the lessons above. 

Classes start with 20 minutes of fitness and games. Divers (6-15 years old) will then proceed to the diving boards for a 40-minute diving lesson. A child must master every skill at each of the eight diving levels before progressing to the next level. In order to preserve the integrity of each class, we reserve the right to transfer children who are not in the appropriate level.

Gym and Swim (2 years old)

Due to COVID-19, this course is cancelled until further notice. Swimming lessons are still offered, please refer to the Olympic Way swimming lessons above. 

This is a one hour gym and swim program designed for 2 year old children (children must be 2 years old before the start of the session). Play and movement skills in the program help develop the child’s physical and social skills. Parent participation is required in the gymnasium.

Gym and Swim (Ages 3 to 6)

Due to COVID-19, this course is cancelled until further notice. Swimming lessons are still offered, please refer to the Olympic Way swimming lessons above. 

A one-hour gym and swim program designed for pre-schoolers (3-6 year old). This program offers activities where children can build a solid background in motor coordination through play. Under careful supervision children have the opportunity to develop body awareness through running, climbing, jumping, throwing, catching and rhythms. The water component complements the land exercises.

Homeschooling Families

Due to COVID-19, this course is cancelled until further notice. Swimming lessons are still offered, please refer to the Olympic Way swimming lessons above. 

Three options are offered to children who are homeschooled:

  • Children ages 3 to 6 are invited to participate in the regular Gym and Swim program (see above).
  • Children ages 7 to 10 can participate in a more age-appropriate Gym and Swim program. The skills developed are similar to those in the regular program.
  • Children age 9 and up have the option of taking a 45-minute Olympic Way swimming lesson.

Private Swimming Lessons (ages 2 to 16)

Special Programs for Children

As the gym and weight room are closed due to COVID-19, Adapted Gym and Swim activities are canceled. A 45-minute Adapted Swimming class will be offered.

NEW - Aqua Percept / Adapted Swimming (Ages 3 to 16)

Aqua Percept (Ages 3 and up)

A non-competitive, gym and swim program for children who might not otherwise participate in regular physical activities. This may be due to poor coordination, perceptual motor difficulties or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. A ratio of 3 children to 1 instructor along with positive reinforcement have made this program a resounding success.

Aqua Percept Sport (ages 8 to 13)

Due to COVID-19, this course is cancelled until further notice. An adpated swim class is offered, please see above. 

This is an Aqua Percept program that has been modified to cater to older children. The first hour consists of group gym activities. The second hour includes swimming lessons and group pool games.

Adapted Gym and Swim (ages 3 and up)

Due to COVID-19, this course is cancelled until further notice. An adpated swim class is offered, please see above. 

A gym and swim program for children with special needs, who could benefit from a 1-to-1 or 2-to-1 student-instructor ratio. A half-hour gym session helps to develop gross motor skills and a positive self-image in a non-competitive environment. A half-hour swimming lesson follows the gym session.

Adapted Gym and Swim - Fine Motor (ages 4 to 12)

Due to COVID-19, this course is cancelled until further notice. An adpated swim class is offered, please see above. 

A half-hour of activities and games primarily focused on practicing fine motor skills and the continuing development of social skills. The program is designed for children who are participating in the Adapted Gym and Swim program.

Lifeguard, Instructor and First Aid Courses

Bronze Medallion (ages 13 and up)

Bronze Medallion teaches basic lifesaving principles. Candidates learn rescue procedures for both conscious and unconscious victims. Exams are given on the last day of the session therefore the last class will be longer.

Bronze Cross (ages 14 and up)

Bronze Cross continues the lifesaving procedures taught in Bronze Medallion. Standard First Aid / AED (ages 15 and up)

The Lifesaving Standard First Aid course prepares the candidate to take on the role of medical attendant during an emergency situation. The candidate will learn specific first aid and treatment strategies to prevent further injury while waiting for the arrival of emergency medical services. The candidate is also trained to recognize signs and symptoms of potential danger. Please check dates and times below carefully as 100% attendance is mandatory.

The elements of this lifesaving certificate are designed to help candidates develop the 4 main elements of lifeguarding: knowledge, judgement, physical ability and skills. Olympic Way Instructor (ages 15 and up)

The Olympic Way Instructor course is a certificate program designed to give participants a solid foundation in the Olympic Way swimming program. This is a practical hands-on approach that teaches new instructors how to conduct a safe, fun swimming lesson at all levels of the Olympic Way program (emphasis is given to levels White through Blue). Candidates will be asked to observe 3 hours of Olympic Way swimming lessons throughout the 10 week program.

Swimming Lessons

Four levels of instruction are offered:

  • Initiation to Swimming is for individuals with a fear of water or those who have never learned to swim. It is designed to foster a feeling of safety and comfort in the water. Due to COVID-19, this course is cancelled until further notice. 
  • The Beginner course is for individuals who have basic skills but would like to become more comfortable and gain more confidence in the water. Due to COVID-19 and in order to maintain social distancing, our monitors will no longer be in the water with the participants.
  • The Stroke Improvement course is intended for swimmers who are looking to improve their technique in all four swimming strokes.
  • Endurance swimming is geared toward proficient swimmers looking to improve their front crawl technique in order to increase their proficiency and endurance in the water.

Diving Lessons

We offer a variety of exercise fitness classes to all levels to improve all components of physical well-being: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, as well as flexibility. Classes are given by qualified instructors and are designed to suit participant’s needs and abilities.
