Household waste
A weekly collection is held in buildings of nine (9) dwellings or more, and in commercial zones in the Villages of Pointe-Claire and Valois.
For collection schedules, consult the Collection Calendar.
Summer schedule
From June 4 to August 21, 2024, household waste collection will be weekly on Tuesdays for sector A and Wednesdays for sector B.
Sectors
District A: District A includes the entire area west of Saint-Jean Boulevard and the entire area south of Highway 20.
District B: District B is located north of Highway 20, east of boulevard Saint-Jean and south of boulevard Hymus.
How to place bins and containers
- Your bins must be placed at the end of your driveway, close to the public thoroughfare, after 6 p.m. the day before or before 7 a.m. on collection day.
- The wheels and handles of the wheeled bin must face your home.
- A space of 30 cm (1 foot) must be left around the bin and between the bins, as well as 45 cm for containers.
After collection, your bins must be removed no later than 10 p.m. on the day of collection. Outside of collection day, the bin must be stored where it will be least visible from the street and least disruptive to neighbouring properties.
Instructions
IMPORTANT – Bins provided by the City for organic materials and recyclables cannot be used for domestic waste collection. By-law PC-2864
Citizens are responsible for obtaining a container or bin for this collection. We recommend that the bin be grey or black. It should not be blue, green or brown. If it is a wheeled bin, the bin must have a European grip, not an American one.
Only household waste placed in a closed container or wheeled bin is collected. Bulky items are not accepted for this collection (anything too big to fit in a garbage can), except sofas and armchairs. Electronic appliances, halocarbons (e.g. refrigerators), tires and construction materials will not be accepted. You can take them to an Ecocentre.
Instructions for the disposal of your upholstered items for collection
- For each address or apartment building, a maximum of 10 upholstered items or the equivalent of 5 m3 is accepted per collection.
- Your items must be placed in your driveway, at the curb, after 6 p.m. the day before or before 7 a.m. the day of collection.
- It is important that these items not be placed too close to your bin. A space of 30 cm (1 ft.) must be left all around the bin to allow it to be picked up mechanically.
- The weight of each item must not exceed 110 lb (50 kg), and the maximum dimensions are 1.8 m (6 ft) by 1.2 m (4 ft).
