Programs for children and teens

The Olympic Way (Ages 2 to 16)
Children under 12 years old must be accompanied at all times. They cannot be left unsupervised if a parent is participating in a class with another child.
Non-swimmers learn to swim using a swimming aid, which allows them to spend more time in the water. As they progress through the eight swimming levels, they become proficient at the four competitive swim strokes.

Parent and Baby (5 to 18 months)
A half hour lesson providing a warm and playful introduction to the swimming pool while emphasizing safety. Parent and child will be introduced to basic water skills, a variety of carries, teaching aids such as flutter boards, noodles, swimming bubbles and more. Children must be 5 months old before the start of the session. One adult (16 yrs +) goes in the water with the child.

Parent and Tot (16 to 36 months)
A half hour lesson providing a fun and interactive learning environment where parent and child will be introduced to basic water skills needed to become increasingly confident in the water, including independent swimming. One adult goes in the water with the child.

Beginner (Ages 8 to 16)
Introduction to swimming for ages 8 and up to increase comfort level and independence in the water. To succeed in the program, students must swim one width of the pool continuously.

Dive fit (ages 6 to 15)
Prerequisite: Green swim level
Classes start with 20 minutes of fitness and games. Divers (6-15 years old) will then proceed to the diving boards for a 40-minute diving lesson. A child must master every skill at each of the eight diving levels before progressing to the next level. In order to preserve the integrity of each class, we reserve the right to transfer children who are not in the appropriate level.

Adapted Gym and Swim (Ages 3 +)
We are unable to offer Aqua Percept this session. We hope to resume the classes in the next session. We do offer a 45 minute adapted swimming program (see below).
A gym and swim program for children with special needs, who could benefit from a 1-to-1 or 2-to-1 student-instructor ratio. A half-hour gym session helps to develop gross motor skills and a positive self-image in a non-competitive environment. A half-hour swimming lesson follows the gym session.

Bronze Medallion (Ages 13 and up)
Pre-Requisite : Olympic Way Silver level or Red Cross Swim Kids 10
Bronze Medallion teaches basic lifesaving principles. Candidates learn rescue procedures for both conscious and unconscious victims. Exams are given on the last day of the session therefore the last class will be longer. Course given mainly in English; course manual in English or French.

Bronze Cross (Ages 14 and up)
Pre-requisite: Bronze Medallion
Bronze Cross continues the lifesaving procedures taught in Bronze Medallion. Candidates are better prepared to assess dangerous areas and dangerous behaviours in order to keep aquatic facilities safe and to prevent accidents. Exams are given on the last day of the session therefore the last class will be longer. Course given mainly in English; manual available in English or French.

National Lifeguard (Ages 15 and up)
Pre-requisite: Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid
The elements of this lifesaving certificate are designed to help candidates develop the 4 main elements of lifeguarding: knowledge, judgement, physical ability and skills. While reinforcing the guarding techniques and skills acquired in the previous courses, this course improves the decision-making process enabling lifeguards to prevent emergencies and to intervene in emergency situations. Exam is given on the last day of the session.

Lifesaving Instructor (Ages 16 and up)
Prerequisite : National Lifeguard
This certification gives the candidates the knowledge required to teach the following lifesaving courses: Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross. They learn educational strategies enabling them to teach and assess first aid situations, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the different techniques and abilities in lifesaving. 100 % attendance is required.

Aqua-Arthritics
A 45 minute hydro-therapy program designed to improve mobility, strength and functioning of individuals with arthritis and related conditions. A medical clearance is required for new participants.
