Financial support for seniors receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement

The mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, and the members of City Council would like to remind citizens that financial support in the amount of up to $100 per year is offered by the City to seniors receiving the federal Guaranteed Income Supplement.

“Our community has always supported and continues to support our low-income seniors. This program was created with this in mind for seniors in need. It’s all the more relevant during this exceptional time of the pandemic,” Mayor Belvedere said.

The annual grant amount can reach up to $100 per address, for both tenants and homeowners. It is determined based on the total number of applications received by the City. This grant is available to anyone living in Pointe-Claire aged 65 or over receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement from the federal government.

Eligible persons must present the following documents:

  • The Application Form for the grant to support seniors aged 65 and over, which is available online and at City Hall. You must complete and sign section A. If you are a tenant, section B must also be signed by your landlord.
  • A copy of a monthly bill issued in your name by a recognized company (electricity, telephone, cable, etc.) covering a period including May 1, 2020. If you are unable to provide us with such a document, you must provide us with a copy of your lease or your lease renewal letter covering the same period.
  • If this is a first request, you must provide proof that you were 65 or over on May 1, 2020 (health insurance card, driver’s licence, birth certificate, etc.).
  • A copy of your 2019 T4A (OAS) statement, including confirmation of receipt of the Guaranteed Income Supplement, issued by Employment and Social Development Canada.

The file containing the documents may be sent to the City of Pointe-Claire by September 28, 2020, in three ways:
