To date, preventive treatment with TreeAzin is the only action recommended by experts and the only action that provides relatively effective protection against the emerald ash borer. This insecticide, which must be injected at the base of the trunk by a professional, works for two years. A special rate of $3.79 per centimetre of diameter is being offered to residential addresses, and the treatment must be completed between June 15 and August 31.

For ash trees that qualify for preventive treatment, a grant equivalent to 50% of the cost of treatment is being offered to homeowners, up to a maximum of $1500 per address every two years. A grant is also offered to homeowners for the felling of an ash tree; the grant covers 50% of the cost, up to $200 per tree. A permit is required and delivered free of charge in order to proceed with the work during the specified period, between October 1 and March 14.
