Public piano available in Pointe-Claire Village starting June 23

From June 23 to October 2, a public piano will be set up in Pointe-Claire Village. Between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., citizens are invited to pick out a tune on the piano or play their favourite melodies with enthusiastic vigor. The piano will be made available to the public initially at the green space at the corner of Cartier Avenue and Du Bord-du-Lac ― Lakeshore Road, and then take up residence beginning August 9 at Edgewater Park for the rest of the season.

The piano can be recognized by its minimalist, abstract and festive decoration—the work of artist Zoé Boivin. Entitled Douces Festivités, this creation highlights a palette of colours as lively as they are delicate. The artist was inspired by the themes of travel, freedom, exploration and spontaneity, as well as themes of childhood, curiosity, play and summer vacations. She was able to express water, greenery, flowers, sand and air using an abstract language.

Inaugural Concert – Thursday, June 23, at 5 p.m.

Green space at the corner of Cartier Avenue and Du Bord-du-Lac ― Lakeshore Road
Radio-Canada’s 2015–2016 Jazz Revelation Award winner Guillaume Martineau is a pianist with many talents. Accompanied by singer Janna Kate and bassist Éric Lagacé, he will showcase the many facets of his playing during this outdoor concert. The trio will perform arrangements of songs by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Neil Young, and The Beatles, as well as classic French and Quebec songs.

Closing Concert – Fall
To close the season, the public is once again invited in the fall around the piano for a concert as part of the 2022 Culture Days. Follow the City’s Facebook page or consult the Concerts and Shows section of the City’s calendar of events as of September for the details.

This public piano in Pointe-Claire Village is in addition to the one that has been in place for many years now every summer on the terrace of the Stewart Hall Cultural Centre.
