The Pointe-Claire Swim Club wins the Eastern Canadian Championships

The mayor of Pointe-Claire, John Belvedere, is proud to highlight the achievement of the Pointe-Claire Swim Club athletes, who were the top-ranked team at the Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships held in Laval from April 11 to 14.

The 57 Pointe-Claire athletes earned an impressive total of 3,710.50 points, placing them on top of the leaderboard by over 1,500 points!

The men’s team in the age 17 and over category in particular performed exceptionally well, winning eleven out of thirteen events in their age group alone.

Thanks to the exceptional results they obtained throughout the year, the Pointe-Claire Swim Club athletes will be part of the national team (senior and junior) at the following competitions:

  • Eric Brown and Stanfor Li: Best Fest Open Water Festival, May 22 to Jun 2, in Mallorca, Spain
  • Alyson Ackman and Colleen Cloetta: Pan Am Games, July 26 to August 11, in Lima, Peru
  • Patrick Hussey: UANA Junior Open Water Championships, August 13 to 20, in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, United States

Eric Brown had a noteworthy performance, breaking the provincial record in the 800-metre freestyle in the age 15-17 category twice: first during the Canadian Swimming Trials with a time of 8:18.98, then during the Eastern Canadian Championships with a time of 8:17.01. The old record of 8:23.38 was set in 1977.

“This is a remarkable achievement that demonstrates our young athletes’ dedication to their sport. We encourage them to continue honing their talent, and we are proud to have them represent Pointe-Claire,” stated Mayor Belvedere.
